 READING INTENT

LONG TERM OVERVIEW

WRITING INTENT

WHOLE CLASS READING APPROACH

 (VIPERS)

Whole class reading is the method used to teach individual children to become equipped and ready to answer a variety of comprehension questions. Children are explicitly taught the skills of reading (outlined in the National Curriculum and the KS1 and KS2 test domains). As a parent or guardian, it would be also helpful for you to be aware of these, so that you too can practice these skills with your child when listening to your child read:

At Sunnymede, children's reading skills are taught and practised using the 'VIPERS' approach during whole class reading sessions. This allows children to develop a broad range of reading skills to ensure they 'read to learn' and advance their comprehension skills.

English in Action

17th - 21st April

This week, year 3 have been studying the poem 'The Sound Collector' by Roget McGough.  Inspired by the poem, we collected sounds from around our school and wrote them into a poem, just like 'The Sound Collector'.  Can you see our rhyming words and repetition?  Can you feel the rhythm of the poem

We listened for sounds in the hall.

We listened for sounds in the playground.

We listened for sounds in upper school, but it was very quiet as they were al working so hard!

WORLD BOOK DAY

We had a really fun day today for World Book Day.  Everyone looked amazing!

Year 3 made mosaic designs of our favourite book character.  Can you tell what they are?

Within the library, clues were left for us to decide which character had come for dinner.

Winner: Dog zombie in Tom Gates

Absolutely Fantastic

Some clues left us very stumped!

Year 4

In English, we have been reading 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes.  We have enjoyed creating conscience alleys to develop our understanding of Hogarth (one of the main characters) as well as exploring characters through drama.
