In a KS2 assembly, we shared poetry that we have been learning about in our English lessons. Year 6 recited 'Beneath the Earth' - a poem which retells the catastrophic events of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Year 5 learnt studied 'The Nature Trail' by Benjamin Zephaniah and were inspired by this to write their own. Year 4 studied the interesting structure of a haiku and created their own based on animals. Lastly, year 3 studied a classic - The Owl and the Pussycat - and as well as performing this poem, they wrote their own as well.
Throughout the year, we will track our progress through our writing wall.
Reception have been focusing on set 1 sounds through their Read, Write, Inc. scheme. They have also been learning traditional tales and practising vc (at, it, on) and cvc (fox, cat, dog) words. Click the button beneath to look at the EYFS webpage which includes information about phonics in reception.
Year 1 started the year writing their own bonfire acrostic poems. They also read some stories based upon the themes of journeys and bravery. Using these as a stimulus, they wrote wanted posters, character descriptions and a story.
In Year 2, they have been continuing to build on their writing skills across the curriculum. To help become a good writer, they need to experience and be inspired by a range of books.
Year 4 have been studying The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. They wrote diary entries, persuasive letters and speeches.
Year 5 have been studying Macbeth by William Shakespeare. They created there own Witches' Spells. Inspired by the story of Macbeth, year 5 wrote persuasive letters, description and play scripts.
Year 6 used the picture book Jumanji as a stimulus to write their own action and suspense story.
Year 6 - sharing our work
This month we have written our own retelling of action sequence from the story Jumanji. We worked hard to build suspense and tension as well as maintain description when writing action. Once our stories were completed and published we spent time sharing our work with year 2 pupils.
Year 2
For inspiration, year 2 participated in a Great Fire of London experience. They re-enacted the events of the Plague and the Great Fire of London, which will support their writing in class.
Can you guess which characters we might be playing?
Year 5
To immerse year 5 into our English unit of Macbeth, we took part in a drama workshop at the Globe Theatre. We re-enacted key parts of the play to help build our understanding of the story. We definitely have some budding actors and actresses within our cohort!
September 2024
In year 4, the children have had a fantastic start to the new school year. In English, we have been enjoying our class text: The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. They have been immersing ourselves into it with role play.
World Book Day 2024
We had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day this year. To celebrate our first year as a primary school, we met up with children from other classes and shared some of our favourite books. We also held a potato character competition. Below are the winners from each class- can you guess who some of the characters are? Have a look at year group pages to see the amazing costumes!
17th - 21st April
This week, year 3 have been studying the poem 'The Sound Collector' by Roget McGough. Inspired by the poem, we collected sounds from around our school and wrote them into a poem, just like 'The Sound Collector'. Can you see our rhyming words and repetition? Can you feel the rhythm of the poem
We listened for sounds in the hall.

We listened for sounds in upper school, but it was very quiet as they were al working so hard!
