Reading is a key part of learning and through a range of texts, we hope children become immersed and enjoy reading for pleasure.
Here is a list of recommended reads for Year 3 to help inspire and excite children.
VE Day
We had a great time on VE Day. We had a wonderful whole school assembly where we listened to Sir Winston Churchill's speech! We looked at footage and photos from the time and together we reflected on how grateful we are. In class we made VE Day commemorative plates designed with all things G.B!
We enjoyed the museum, seeing all of the Roman and Iron age artefacts brought history to life. They even got to try on some helmets and clothing from the period.
The castle dates back to 1076.
Year 3 had an amazing sunny day trip to Colchester recently.
Pupils got to make an Iron Age roundhouse and a Roman villa! It was the ultimate test of teamwork and following instructions.

Deep down underground the castle the children were able to see the foundations of the Roman temple that once stood here.
The tour guide was impressed with how much the children knew about the Romans and their invasion of Brittain!
The children have been enjoying their art lessons this term. Thye have been learning about mixing colours, using a colour wheel and exploring tones of colour. For their main piece the pupils designed an image inspired by a famous artist duo: Sonja and Robert Delaunay. Exploring shapes and colour resulted in some amazing art! Well done year 3!
The children enjoyed an excellent first aid workshop. They understood what ICE means how to use this in an emergency. The received a useful ICE activity to complete to take home. The learned about using the emergency services appropriately and how to use ‘DRSABC’ to assess an emergency. They learned vital treatment for nosebleeds also!
In pairs, the children practised carrying out CPR, they were taught a story to remember the steps. What a fantastic and important workshop. The children were so sensible and all very focused on how important first aid is. Well done year 3!
Emerald Class Assembly
Today Emerald class pupils took the opportunity to share their learning with the school and their families. They all worked really hard and did a great job. Well done Emerald Class!
🧘Yoga 🪷
Our focus in P.E. this spring has been Yoga! We have practiced holding balances and moving between balances creating a flowing sequence. Namaste!
Art: Clay Work
Year Three have been developing their clay skills by making mosaic tiles. The pupils anaylsed Roman artwork and compared it to Gaudi's artwork. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed designing, making and decorating their tiles.
Dance Lesson
Emerald class was given the opportunity to participate in a dance lesson led by pupils at The Billericay School. All the pupils (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed the experience and performed a fantastic dance - Well done Emerald class!
Stone Age Day
What a fantastic day we have had learning about the Stone Age! All the pupils looks awesome dressed in their costumes and participated with great enthusiasm. We learnt lots of fascinating facts and even got to go hunting for a wolly mammoth and deer!
💻COMPUTING🖥️
Year 3 have been enjoying computing so far. We have been studying coding, adding various algorithms to design, write and debug programs. The children have been fantastic at inputting sequences and creating their own!
